Here’s a nice freebie for the Windows VST guys.
Here’s a free high-pass/low-pass filter plugin from Brainworx which also includes a unique joystick control. Brainworx reommends that you put this as the first plugin on all of your tracks to filter out the unnecessary highs and lows so they don’t crowd your mix. Definitely a high-quality and worthy choice for that duty! (for vst, au and rtas)
Sir Sedric just started a blog with some great Reason tutorials, a new Refill for sale called “Funked Out Pimp” and two free drum refills called “Sir Sedric’s BoomBapp” and “ChipDrums”. Yeah, more free stuff for Reason users!
Antress’s free bundle of plugins were immediately (and possibly unfairly) dismissed as nothing but pretty graphics when they first came out. But as they’ve expanded and refined their coding, a lot of PC VST users have begun to swear by these plugs and use them right along side of plugins that cost hundreds of dollars.
Often, Antress plugins are emulating the same hardware that paid plugins emulate. This provides the unique opportunity to see how good or bad the Antress plugins really are compared to the competition. Youtube user SSL9000Down has taken the time to do some direct A/B comparison videos of a whole variety of plugins so hit the jump to see Antress plugins vs. UAD plugins that are modeling the same hardware devices.
Midem 2010 is taking place in Cannes, France this weekend and here are some links to keep up with what’s going on in the music industry.
Antress just updated their plugin bundle to version 4.85 and added three new plugins to their already potent lineup. Modern Expander MKIV, Modern Vacuumer and Modern Splitter join the other 16 plugins that Antress offers for free.
First off, this company’s flash website doesn’t even load in my Safari browser; but after firing up Furryfox I finally got to hear some smooth techno and see that radical flash motion images. [/sarcasm] More importantly, I finally got to the UltraPhazer product page and got to read a little bit about this plugin and download it. Originally made only for PC VST a few years ago, Virtual Creations is now porting all of their plugins over the Mac starting with this cool free phaser plugin.
PBS just debuted this great documentary last night! More infos here but if you want to watch it now, just hit the jump.

Alright. This refill is srs bsns. It’s one entire Ocean Way drum kit (Kit 10 Medium) mapped out a few different ways in the Reason Refill format. The refill weighs in at 275 mb(!!!) for just one kit and the playability of the layered samples is really impressive. I’m going to post a video of some of my impressions of the kit on thursday and some little samples.
I saw a link to these plugins the other day on a really great blog called Musformation and I immediately made a mental note to try them as soon as I had some free time. Despite the fact that they look plain due to having no graphics interface (they just use the plain Apple UI), I could tell that these were some deep effects that needed to be explored and experimented with. You won’t find your typical effects here – these 23 plugins are mostly spectral processing and time domain manglers. That’s right…23 free plugins!
