I LOVE using samples…don’t get me wrong. But using a drum machine’s old sequencer or a drum synthesizer to shape your own sounds from scratch is always a fun and rewarding experience. And electronic beats are more “in” today than ever.
Marvin, a Japanese company (I think?), just released a few drum synthesizers to experiment with that cost a whopping $0. Yes, AFB, bringing you more freebies in 2k11.
Click here to go to their site and check out the downloads. PC Only. Bummer for me.
Look, we know it is harder than ever to sell your music. If you already have a fanbase, an email list, a Facebook following, etc… you owe it to yourself to think about trying a Kickstarter campaign to raise money for your next project. And you also owe it to yourself to download this free ebook to learn the strategies to make these campaigns work for you.
I’m really excited to have stumbled across this book. And if any of our readers end up trying a campaign, let us know! We’ll send it out to our readers.
Basically, Eareckon has this series of plugins called Analog87, and instead of releasing demos of those plugins, they released these free versions which are based on the same audio engines but have limited parameters. There is a Compressor, Gate, Limiter and Eq.
They are available for Mac as AU or VST 32bit OR 64 bit or WIN VST 32 or 64 bit. Click here to download.
This is one of the most unique and interesting freebies we have seen in a long time! Loomer’s Cumulus is a granular sampler that chops up audio into little bits and allows you to reassemble or play it via midi or with its built in sampler. You can get radically new sounds from ambient soundscapes to intense noise. It also comes in almost every imaginable format for PC, Mac AND LINUX. Rtas, Vst, AU and standalone versions!
Unfortunately, there is no download link for this one. The only way to get it is to buy issue #170 of Computer Music Magazine
which is on newstands now. It is included with the free dvd that comes with the issue and will also be on the dvds for future issues, as well, if you miss this one.
To get more information about this awesome instrument, check out Loomer’s blog.
You have to check out these samples on their website! These work on both Mac and PC and are a no brainer download if you’re looking for a unique vintage pipe organ sound.
A pipe organ? Am i really going to use that in production? YES! GO LISTEN AND THEN DOWNLOAD. Wavesfactory also have some coupons for the full paid version until Oct. 1st.
As they do with every release, New Zealand sample makers Goldbaby released a free sample pack to go along with their new iAm-K3m Sample pack. Their new pack for sale are sampled patches from the Kawai K3m digital/analog hybrid synthesizer run through some amazing analog processing. This free pack brings you some drum sounds made by this under rated synth.
Download the sounds here! (and also snag some of their other free sample sets)
This reverb plugin dates back to when I started making music on a computer; It was part of the DUY Everpack. DUY has decided to let us have it as a freebie for most Mac formats and RTAS on the PC and it’s definitely worth checking out.
You can use the “rehearsal mode” to use the impulse response to set the reverb parameters, which is a nice touch, and get some metallic/trashy sounding room reverbs easily. To some, that might sound like a negative thing, but every reverb has its own flavor and sound so use them for their strengths rather than dwelling on their weaknesses…especially if they’re free!

FINALLY! Mac users have been patiently waiting for Acustica Audio’s Nebula platform to be released as an audiounit for Mac for a long time; and it’s here!
Nebula uses samples to give you a VERY accurate replicas of classic hardware units that we all wish we could own. Eqs, compressors, distortions, preamps, reverbs…expert ears will agree that Nebula gives you a sound unlike almost anything else you can get “in-the-box.”
Follow this thread on Gearslutz to get the latest info about the release or head over to Acustica’s site and download Nebula 3 today.
TheSample.net just opened up shop, and is looking like they are going to provide a great resource for hip-hop producers. At AFB, you know we love free drums, and there are already 3 cool sample packs available!
